About this wine
The wine that started the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc story. Cloudy Bay's first vintage, in 1985, put New Zealand on the wine map and defined a style that every other producer in the region has been measuring against since. The 2025 came from the largest bunches in the vineyard's memory — prolonged ripening, 80 different portions tasted, only 61 selected for the final blend. A fraction fermented in large-format oak vats adds texture without interrupting the freshness. The result is everything Marlborough SB is supposed to be: elderflower, peach, makrut lime, sea salt, dune grass, and that steel-cut citrus acidity that won't let go.
Tasting notes
Pale gold with a luminous rim. The nose is open and immediately expressive — elderflower and peach are the first impression, followed by makrut lime and freshly squeezed lemon. On the palate, lemon curd and white nectarine dominate, lifted by a character that recalls a cool sea breeze. Hints of sea salt and dune grass on the mid-palate. Steel-cut citrus acidity drives a clean, elegant, lingering finish.
