About this wine

Château Lynch-Bages is Pauillac's most celebrated over-achiever — a Fifth Grand Cru Classé that has spent decades performing at Second Growth level. The Cazes family transformed the estate from the 1970s, and today Lynch-Bages is among the most sought-after names in the Médoc. The estate covers 110 hectares of classic Pauillac gravel on the Lynch plateau — deep, free-draining soils over limestone that produce Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable intensity. The blend is CS-dominant with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 2020 vintage was exceptional across Bordeaux: warm, dry, perfectly ripened — a growing season that delivered depth and concentration that will define this wine for decades.

Tasting notes

Deep, inky garnet. The nose is dense and expressive — blackcurrant, dark plum and graphite, with cedar, tobacco and a warm spice undercurrent from the 2020 heat. On the palate, full-bodied with powerful, ripe tannins and a long, concentrated finish. The fruit is generous and layered; the Pauillac structure runs beneath it. Needs time — open it in five to ten years.

From the winemaker

Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from the Lynch plateau's deep gravel and limestone soils in Pauillac; classic Pauillac vinification; aged in French oak barriques; 2020 — exceptional vintage, warm and dry; Château Lynch-Bages, Fifth Grand Cru Classé 1855, Famille Cazes.

Editor's note

Lynch-Bages is Bordeaux's most famous over-performer — the Fifth Growth that drinks like a Second. The 2020 is the house at its fullest: a great vintage, dense fruit, the Pauillac backbone, and the long game that makes this estate worth the price. Plan a decade before you open it.
