About this wine

Boroli's Langhe estate sits at 400 metres on limestone soils — not the usual Chardonnay territory, but it produces a character distinct from both the classic Burgundy Côte d'Or and the riper, broader styles of warmer regions. The vineyard is adjacent to the cellar; the harvest is entirely by hand. Cryomaceration before fermentation — the same cold-extraction technique Boroli uses across the 1661 line — gives the wine aromatic intensity and texture without heaviness. Several months in oak barrels completes it. Lemon peel, ripe apricot, a whisper of elderflower. An Italian Chardonnay that earns the word serious.

Tasting notes

Pale yellow with greenish reflections. The nose unfolds precisely — lemon peel and ripe apricot first, then a delicate hint of elderflower. On the palate, fresh and balanced: clean vivid acidity, a soft creamy texture from oak aging, a long defined finish. A Chardonnay that rewards food.

From the winemaker

100% Chardonnay from Langhe DOC; vineyard adjacent to cellar at ~400m altitude on limestone soils; hand-harvested with sorting table; cryomaceration 24–48 hours; fermentation in stainless steel; several months oak barrel aging. Boroli family estate.

Editor's note

Piedmont isn't the obvious address for Chardonnay — Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto dominate the conversation. But Boroli's limestone soils at 400m produce something genuinely interesting: lemon peel, ripe apricot, elderflower, a soft creamy texture from oak, and a freshness that keeps everything alive. Made with the same rigour as the red wines in the 1661 line. Pair it with anything creamy and you won't regret it.
