About this wine
From Finca Aylés, one of the only fifteen Vinos de Pago estates Spain recognises — single properties whose terroir is so singular it earns its own appellation. The Ramón Reula family have been rebuilding this historic finca outside Zaragoza since the 1980s, every vineyard farmed under certified organic practice. The vines climb to 650 metres on glacis soils thirty-five million years old — clay, lime, calcium — under a micro-continental climate that swings hard between day and night and gives this Syrah its tension. Pure Syrah, 91 points from James Suckling, and a quietly serious bottle for the money.
Tasting notes
Deep cherry-garnet. The nose layers warm spice into compoted dark fruit with that lifted, peppery signature Syrah lovers wait for. The attack is direct and confident, then unfolds into a silky mouthfeel of ripe, supple tannins. The finish is the wine's calling card — long, balanced, clean. Drinking beautifully tonight, with the structure to keep for a few more years.
Food pairings
Slow-roasted lamb shoulder, Beef and olive stew, Manchego and membrillo, Grilled merguez
Best for
A relaxed evening with good food
