About this wine
Echo de Lynch-Bages is the second wine of Château Lynch-Bages, a Fifth Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac that has spent decades punching well above its classification. The Cazes family — Jean-Michel Cazes transformed the estate from the 1970s — have made Lynch-Bages one of the most sought-after names in the Médoc. Echo draws from younger vines and complementary parcels of Lynch-Bages' 110 hectares of classic Pauillac gravel over limestone. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 2021 vintage was cool, precise and structured — lower natural alcohol, high acidity, wines built to develop over time rather than to offer immediate flattery.
Tasting notes
Deep garnet. The nose shows classic Pauillac character — blackcurrant, dark plum and cedar, with a pencil-shavings note and a tobacco thread beneath. On the palate, medium-full with well-structured tannins and a firm mineral acidity. The 2021 cool year shows in the restraint and freshness. Long, aromatic finish. Needs another year or two to fully open.
Aromas
blackcurrant, dark plum, cedar, pencil shavings, tobacco, graphite, dark cherry

From the winemaker
Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from younger vines and selected parcels of Château Lynch-Bages; classic Pauillac vinification; aged in French oak barriques; 2021 — cool, precise vintage; Château Lynch-Bages (Famille Cazes), Pauillac Fifth Grand Cru Classé 1855.
Editor's note
Lynch-Bages is the most famous over-achiever in Bordeaux — a Fifth Growth with a First Growth reputation. Echo is the second wine of that estate: the Pauillac DNA is there — dark fruit, cedar, the long backbone — but at an entry point that makes sense. The 2021 is structured and precise, not flattering yet, but give it time.
