About this wine
Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of Château Lagrange, the Saint-Julien 3ème Grand Cru Classé that has been steadily transformed since Suntory acquired and restored the estate in 1983. Drawn from younger vines and parcels not retained for the grand vin, Fiefs gives an approachable, fruit-forward read of the Lagrange style — Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant with a meaningful share of Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot, aged in French oak with a moderate share of new barrels. The 2021 favoured Saint-Julien's late-ripening Cabernet, producing a wine that is fresh, fine-grained and classically built.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby. The nose is fragrant — blackcurrant, dark cherry, a thread of cedar and violet — with the gentle toast of barrel ageing in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, with fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity and a savoury, slightly graphite finish. A second wine in the proper Saint-Julien register, drinkable now and the better for another five years in the cellar.
Food pairings
Côte de bœuf, Roast duck with cherries, Aged Comté, Mushroom and beef stew
Best for
A Saint-Julien for a quiet dinner
