About this wine

Château Lagrange is a Third Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Julien — an appellation that produces arguably the most consistently elegant red wines in Bordeaux, sitting between the power of Pauillac to the north and the refinement of Margaux to the south. Owned by the Suntory group since 1983, Lagrange has been transformed into one of the most reliable estates in the Médoc, with a modern winery and deep commitment to quality. Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine: Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot, selected from younger vines and declassified parcels. The 2021 vintage was a cooler, more restrained year — lower alcohol, higher natural acidity, wines built for the medium term rather than immediate weight.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby. The nose is clean and focused — blackcurrant, blackberry and cassis, with a layer of cedar and a fine graphite thread beneath. On the palate, medium-full with firm, dry tannins and crisp acidity keeping the structure tight. Mid-palate shows good fruit density. Finish is long and mineral. Textbook Saint-Julien second wine: correct, precise, and age-worthy.

Aromas

blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis, cedar, graphite, dried herbs, tobacco

From the winemaker

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot from younger vines and selected parcels of Château Lagrange; classic Médoc vinification in temperature-controlled vats; aged in French oak barriques; Château Lagrange, Saint-Julien Troisième Grand Cru Classé, owned by Suntory since 1983.

Editor's note

Saint-Julien is the most reliable appellation in the Médoc — all finesse, no noise. Lagrange is one of its most consistently executed estates, and Les Fiefs is exactly what a second wine from a classified growth should be: precise, structured, and built to last. The 2021 is a classic cool-vintage Médoc — restrained fruit, firm acidity, and a long mineral finish.
