About this wine
Blason d'Issan is the second wine of Château d'Issan, the storied 3ème Cru Classé in Margaux whose grand vin is one of the great names of the appellation. Where the grand vin leans on Cabernet Sauvignon, Blason gives Merlot the lead — 57% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Petit Verdot — drawn from younger vines and parcels not retained for the first wine, vinified plot-by-plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged in barrel (35% new). The 2020 vintage at d'Issan was described by the estate as 'a true revelation' — an early, dry summer followed by ideal autumn diurnals, giving wines with subtle aromatics and harmonious tannins.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby. The nose opens on ripe red and black fruit — plum, cassis, a hint of violet — with subtle spice and gentle oak in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with delicate, harmonious tannins that envelop the palate and give way to a long, hedonistic finish. A classic Margaux signature — perfume and finesse over weight.
Food pairings
Rack of lamb, Beef bourguignon, Roast duck with figs, Aged hard cheeses
Best for
A Margaux evening without the grand-vin price
