About this wine
Château Suduiraut is one of the great Premier Cru Classé estates in Sauternes — a 17th-century château with 92 hectares of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc on the sandy gravel soils of Preignac. The estate is best known for its extraordinary noble-rot Sauternes, but Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec is the dry expression of those same vineyards: Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fermented without botrytis, producing a structured Bordeaux Blanc Sec from one of the finest terroirs in the appellation. The 2023 vintage was warm and generous across Bordeaux — the whites have good richness and texture, with the Suduiraut precision that comes from a 350-year tradition of working these soils.
Tasting notes
Pale gold. The nose is aromatic and textured — ripe grapefruit, white peach and citrus blossom, with a creamy lees character and a hint of toasted almond from the oak. On the palate, medium-full with good body and richness, balanced by a precise, fresh acidity. Long finish with citrus and a fine mineral thread. More textured and interesting than a typical Bordeaux Blanc.
Aromas
grapefruit, white peach, citrus blossom, toasted almond, lemon curd, honeysuckle, white flowers

From the winemaker
Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon from sandy gravel soils of Château Suduiraut, Preignac, Sauternes; fermented and aged in French oak barriques with lees stirring; 2023 — warm, generous vintage; Château Suduiraut, Premier Cru Classé Sauternes.
Editor's note
Suduiraut is a Premier Cru Sauternes — the botrytis wine that competes with Yquem in great years. Lions de Suduiraut is what happens when that estate's terroir and winemaking is applied to a dry white: more texture, more richness, more structure than most Bordeaux Blancs. The 2023 is the kind of bottle that surprises people who think they don't like Bordeaux whites.
