About this wine
Moulin du Château La Lagune is the youngest cuvée of Château La Lagune — the 3ème Grand Cru Classé that sits on the first great gravel hilltop on the road into the Médoc, transformed since Caroline Frey took over in 2000 into one of Bordeaux's reference points for organic viticulture. Moulin is drawn from younger vines and parcels not retained for the grand vin or the second wine Mademoiselle L, blended around 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot from the certified-organic vineyard. The 2021 vintage suited the property's late-ripening Cabernet, producing a wine that is fresh, fine-grained and classically Médoc in profile.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby. The nose is fragrant and direct — blackcurrant, dark cherry, a thread of cedar and a savoury graphite touch typical of La Lagune's gravels. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, with fine tannins, balanced acidity and a clean, slightly herbal finish. A genuine Haut-Médoc style at a price that lets you drink it on a weeknight.
Food pairings
Roast lamb, Duck breast with cherry sauce, Mushroom pasta, Aged Comté
Best for
A proper Bordeaux for a Tuesday
