About this wine
Giovanni Rosso is a celebrated Barolo house whose Etna project sits on the northern slope of the volcano, between 730 and 750 metres on dark volcanic soils. The Etna Rosso is 100% Nerello Mascalese — the grape that has made Etna a cult region for lovers of Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo alike — hand-harvested in October, fermented on the skins in stainless steel with daily pump-overs, then aged to preserve its bright volcanic energy. A wine of finesse rather than power, in the high-altitude Etna style.
Tasting notes
Translucent ruby with a garnet rim. The nose is fine and penetrating — violet, bergamot, dried wild herbs and wet stone, with a lift of white pepper. The palate is succulent and progressive, with delicate tannins, lively acidity and a long, savoury finish marked by the volcano's smoky minerality. Built for the table.
Food pairings
Beef Wellington, Mushroom soup with fried bread, Roast duck, Aged pecorino
