About this wine

H.Blin was founded in 1947 when Henri Blin gathered 29 vineyard owners from Vincelles — a village whose name comes from 'vini cella', Latin for wine cellar — to form a cooperative. Today, under Simon Blin (12th generation), the house farms 118 hectares in the heart of the Marne Valley, planted mainly with Meunier, the variety that defines this corner of Champagne. The Brut Tradition is the house calling card: 70% Meunier for roundness and fruit, 20% Chardonnay for freshness, 10% Pinot Noir for structure. Minimum 24 months on lees. A Champagne that argues for a bottle on the table rather than saved for an occasion.

Tasting notes

Golden colour with fine, persistent effervescence. The nose opens on ripe yellow fruits — peach and apricot — with a gentle brioche warmth. On the palate, round and food-friendly, with the Meunier's soft fruited richness balanced by clean freshness and a lively, easy finish.

Aromas

yellow peach, apricot, brioche, acacia, yellow apple, honey

Editor's note

I found H.Blin while looking for a house Champagne I could open on a weeknight without flinching. A 1947 cooperative from Vincelles in the Marne Valley — Vincelles literally means 'wine cellar' in Latin — 12 generations of Meunier growers, 70% of the blend from their home grape. Round, direct, and genuinely good at 91 from Wine Spectator and 92 from Suckling. Three bottles minimum.
